Course Title/s:

ABC Level 3 Award in Youth Work Practice

Target Group:

The Level 3 Award is aimed at staff working with young people in a youth work setting. 

Course Information:

The course has been designed to meet the set National Occupational Standards and to enhance the skills, knowledge and overall performance of candidates through real work activities.

It develops the skills required for working in a variety of settings with young people including local authority or voluntary organisations (youth centres, schools, colleges, youth offending teams or as a mentor or outreach worker).

Course Content:

Candidates must achieve a minimum of 12 credits.

7 credits must come from the Mandatory Units, 5 credits from the Optional Units.


Mandatory Unit:

• Understanding principles, knowledge and skills in work-based practice. (7 credits)


A few of the Optional Units to choose from:

• Understanding youth work principles and practices (10 credits)

• Understanding intervention strategies in youth work settings (6 credits)

• Work-based practice in youth work (9 credits)

• Provide information and advice to young people (3 credits)

• Develop interviewing skills for work with young people (3 credits)

• Caseload management (3 credits)

• Support young people to move towards independence and manage their lives (3 credits)

• Support young people to achieve their learning potential (3 credits)

• Support young people to have positive relationships (3 credits)

• Facilitate the learning and development of young people through mentoring (4 credits)

• Support the referral process for young people (3 credits)

• Understand how to safeguard the well-being of young people (3 credits)

• Understand how to support positive outcomes for young people (3 credits)

• Support young people involved in anti-social/criminal activities (2 credits)

• Support young people who are not in education, employment or training (2 credits)

• Support young people who are socially excluded or excluded from school (2 credits)
